SWIMMING WORLD CUP SWC 2012, Beijing day 2: Olympic champion Ye stuns Hosszu in 400m IM

RENANG INDONESIA, November 3, 2012 BEIJING - Chinese 16-year-old swimming star Ye Shiwen claimed her second gold medal at the FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Beijing as the double Olympic champion came from behind to win the women's 400m individual medley.
 
Ye, gold medallist in this event at the 2012 London Olympic Games, powered home for the win, clocking 4: 26.93 and beating Hungary's Katinka Hosszu by 0.83 seconds. Her compatriot Zsuzsanna Jakabos took third in 4:31.28.

"Actually I am not going to celebrate," said Ye, who swept two golds in the 200m and 400m IM with a new world record at the London Games. "I am not satisfied with the result. I still have a lot of problems in my turns. I still have a lot to improve," she added.

"I felt tired after yesterday's 200m IM. I was not nervous during the 400m IM final, even though I was behind in the first 200m, I knew that I could catch up. I am used to come from behind," Ye said.

Shao Yiwen, another Chinese young talent, claimed her second gold in the 400m free in 4:00.56, after her victory in the 200m on the previous day. Zhang Yufei took the silver in a time of 4:06.48 while Melissa Ingram from New Zealand was third in 4:06.53.
 
2008 Olympic champion Liu Zige took the bronze in the women's 200m butterfly in 2:08.75 in which Hosszu and Jakabos finished 1-2 in 2:06.02 and 2:07.25, respectively. 

Hosszu collected the most medals at this first Asian stop, pocketing three gold, one silver and one bronze. She was also the busiest swimmer by taking part in as many as eight events.

"I felt very tried, but I am happy with the result. I just want to do something different and I think it's interesting," Hosszu said.  (fina)
