Chinese teen wins 2nd gold at Asian championships


RENANG INDONESIA, DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Teenager Xu Danlu on Sunday won her second gold in record time at the Asian swimming championships, leading another day of Chinese dominance at the competition.
The 13-year-old set a personal best of 8:22.24 for victory in the 800-meter freestyle, taking almost 16 seconds off Zhang Yan's competition record that stood for 12 years. She won her first ever Asian gold Saturday in the 400 free.
China won eight of nine events on the final day of swimming, with only Choi Hye-ra breaking the stranglehold. The South Korean won the 200 individual medley.
China, which traditionally dominates the championship, won 33 of 38 races. China also set two other records Sunday, bring its competition total to 12
