FINA Releases Universality Qualifiers for 2012 London Games -- July 6, 2012


LAUSANNE, Switzerland, RENANG INDONESIA- FINA posted the Universality qualifiers for the 2012 London Olympic Games. The list contains 150 swimmers from 96 nations.

Here is a breakdown of the various qualifiers thus far, courtesy of the WSCA. 

FINA currently shows 900 swimmers from 166 nations will swim at the 2012
Olympics. The breakdown of how the 900 qualified for the Games is:
-438 swimmers - Olympic Qualifying Times (A cuts)
-181 swimmers - Olympic Selection Times (B cuts)
-150 swimmer - Universality selection
-131 swimmers - relay-only swimmers

The 96 nations that qualified via the Universality allocation, by continent, are:

-Africa (30 nations, 43 swimmers):
Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, the
Comoros, Congo, C?te d'Ivoire, Djibouti, Egypt, Ethiopia, Guinea,
Lesotho, Libya, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritius, Mozambique, Niger, Nigeria,
Rwanda, Senegal, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda and Zambia.

-Americas (20 nations, 32 swimmers):
Antigua & Barbuda, Aruba, Bermuda, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Dominican
Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras,
Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent & the Grenadines,
Suriname, Uruguay and the Virgin Islands.

-Asia (25 nations, 39 swimmers):
Bahrain, Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, India, Iran, Iraq, Jordan,
Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Lebanon, Maldives, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan,
Palestine, Philippines, Qatar, the Seychelles, Sri Lanka, Syria,
Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and United Arab Emirates.

-Europe (12 nations, 20 swimmers):
Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Georgia,
Latvia, Macedonia, Malta, Moldova, Monaco and San Marino.

-Oceania (9 nations, 16 swimmers):
America Samoa, Cook Islands, Fiji, Guam, Marshall Islands, Micronesia,
Palau, Papua New Guinea and Tonga
