Lausanne (SUI), RENANG (August 21, 2013) – FINA has the
pleasure to report that no anti-doping rule violation was registered at the
15th FINA World Championships, held from July 19 to August 4, 2013 in Barcelona
(ESP).
The numbers of the Anti-Doping programme for this
competition included:
IN COMPETITION
378 urine tests (including 69 EPO screenings)
84 blood tests
378 urine tests (including 69 EPO screenings)

PRE COMPETITION
358 blood tests (in the frame of the Athlete Biological Passport)

TOTAL OF TESTS: 820
Besides these numbers, the most meaningful figures related
to FINA’s major showcase were:
- 177 participating countries
- 2195 athletes and 1835 officials
- 6 aquatic disciplines (with High Diving for the first time
on the programme) in 4 venues – Palau Sant Jordi (Swimming and Synchronised
Swimming), Montjuic Municipal Pool (Diving), Picornell Pool (Water Polo) and
Port Vell (Open Water Swimming and High Diving)
- 600 written press journalists & photographers &
650 TV crew professionals
- 68 events and 204 medals
- 31 nations on the podium
- 280,000 spectators on site during the 16-day competition
- 6 World Records in Swimming
- 211 territories covered by TV
- 102% increase of followers on the Twitter feed @fina1908
(from June 17 to the end of the championships)
- 83% increase of visits on www.fina.org (if compared with
Shanghai 2011) and 75% improvement on page views
- 70,000 daily people who saw posts and other activities on
FINA Facebook page
- 13,000 news and articles on the Spanish media during the
Championships
- US$ 3.2 million in prize money to the best six athletes in
all events
