World Championships 2013: Figures of success in Barcelona

Lausanne (SUI), RENANG (August 21, 2013) – FINA has the pleasure to report that no anti-doping rule violation was registered at the 15th FINA World Championships, held from July 19 to August 4, 2013 in Barcelona (ESP).

The numbers of the Anti-Doping programme for this competition included:

BARCELONA, RENANG — Atlet renang putri Belanda, Ranomi Kromowidjojo, berhasil menjuarai 50 meter gaya bebas di Kejuaraan Dunia di Barcelona, Minggu (4/8/2013).

Ranomi yang merupakan juara Olimpiade London 2012, mencatat waktu 24.05 detik. Ia diikuti Cate campbell dari Australia yang terpaut 0.09 detik di belakang Ranomi.

Sementara itu, perunggu jatuh ke perenang asal Inggris, Fran Hallsall, yang mencatat waktu 0.25 detik di belakang Ranomi.

Ranomi Kromowidjojo merupakan atlet renang utama Belanda. Ia memiliki nama Kromowidjojo dari kakeknya, seorang pekerja perkebunan di Suriname yang dikirim dari Pulau Jawa pada abad lalu.

Lahir pada 20 Agustus 1990 di Sauwerd, Belanda, Ranomi merupakan perenang gaya bebas. Ia meraih medali emas di nomor 4x100 meter estafet gaya bebas di Olimpiade Beijing 2008 dan medali emas 50 meter dan 100 meter gaya bebas di Olimpiade London 2012. (Kompas.com)

15th FINA World Championships : Seven nations with gold in eight finals

RENANG, The eighth and last day of the swimming competitions at the 15th FINA World Championships was marked by the variety of nations getting gold in the eight finals in the programme. Only one country – France - clinched two gold medals, thanks to the performance of Camille Lacourt in the men’s 50m backstroke, and after the surprising disqualification of USA in the men’s 4x100m medley relay. With this final outcome, the French delegation arrived third (nine podium presences, including four titles) in the swimming medals’ table, behind USA (29, comprising 13 gold) and China (also nine awards, but five wins).

In the women’s 50m breaststroke, the duel between the two world record performers Yulia Efimova (RUS) and Ruta Meilutyte (LTU) ended up in the Russian’s favour, while Japan got the gold in the men’s 400m IM: but when everyone expected a win from Kosuke Hagino, it was his teammate Daiya Seto who got the crown.

Ranomi Kromowidjojo (NED) was the best in the 50m free (Fran Halsall, in bronze, gave the only medal for Great Britain in the swimming competition), and in the men’s 1500m free Yang Sun (CHN) comfortably won but could not approach his World Record set precisely one year ago at the 2012 Olympics.

Hungary has good reasons to celebrate with the victory of Katinka Hosszu in the women’s 400m IM, but the home crowd also vibrantly cheered the silver performance of Mireia Belmonte (ESP). The only US title of the day happened in the women’s 4x100m medley, with Franklin, Hardy, Vollmer and Romano perfectly controlling the operations in the water and… on the starting blocks!

At the end of the session, were given the FINA Championships Trophies to the best Male and Female swimmer, as well as the best Team of the competition.

Among men, the award went to Yang Sun (CHN), while Katie Ledecky (USA) was the winner in the women’s field. Both athletes medalled in the same events: 400m, 800m, 1500m free and 4x200m free relay – all in gold for Ledecky and titles for Yang in the individual events and bronze in the relay. Moreover, the US and Chinese star were the second swimmers in the history of the Championships to have won in the same edition the longest free events in the programme: before Ledecky and Sun, only Hannah Stockbauer (GER) in 2003 and Grant Hackett (AUS) in 2005 respectively, had achieved the same feat.

The Trophy for the best Team went without surprise to the USA.

Kejuaraan Dunia Akuatik 2013: Ledecky Pecahkan Rekor Dunia 800 Meter

RENANG — Atlet puteri remaja AS, Katie Ledecky, menorehkan rekor dunia ketika memenangi nomor gaya bebas 800 meter putri pada kejuaraan renang yang berlangsung di Barcelona, Sabtu, sehingga meraih medali emas di tiga nomor berbeda.
  
Perenang berusia 16 tahun itu, yang membuat catatan terbaik dunia dan menang di nomor 1.500 meter, Selasa, serta juara pada nomor 400 meter, membuat catatan delapan menit 13,86 detik.
  
Ia lebih cepat dari rekor sebelumnya, 8:14.10, yang disandang Rebecca Adlington saat meraih medali emas pada Olimpiade Beijing pada 2008.  (KOMPAS.com )

Kejuaraan Dunia Akuatik 2013:Perenang Brazil berjaya di Barcelona

RENANG - Perenang Brazil Cesar Cielo menambahkan satu emas untuk koleksi medali emasnya pada kejuaraan dunia renang di Barcelona, dari nomor sprint 50m gaya kupu-kupu putra, hanya sepuluh bulan setelah menjalani bedah lututnya.

Cielo, juara bertahan dan pemegang rekor dunia, mencatat waktu 21,32 detik, disusul perenang Rusia Vladimir Morozov yang membawa perak dengan selisih waktu 0,15 detik, sedangkan perenang Trinidad dan Tobago George Bovell terpaut 0,19 detik untuk mendapatkan perunggu.

"Saya senang luar biasa, saya merasa seperti bermimpi. Ini hanyalah langkah pertama menuju Olimpiade 2016 di Rio," kata perenang berusia 21 tahun ini seperti dikutip AFP.

Setelah memenangi perunggu pada nomor 50m gaya bebas putra pada Olimpiade London, Cielo menjalani bedah kedua lututnya pada akhir 2012, dan baru menjalani latihan penuh Maret lalu.

"Saya tak mengira menang. Ketika saya melihat papan skor waktu saya senang sekali.  Saya finish di Olimpiade pada posisi yang tak saya inginkan. Setelah Olimpiade dan cedera, saya mulai meragukan diri saya sendiri mengenai apakah saya berbuat sesuatu di sini."

Dengan enam medali emas dari tiga kejuaraan dunia terakhir, Cielo kini menyamai perenang Rusia Alexander Popov sebagai perenang non Amerika Serikat yang meraih enam juara nomor perseorangan pada kejuaraan dunia.

Popov berada di kolam renang Palau Saint Jordi hari Sabtu itu untuk mengalungkan medali, dan Cielo senang bertemu dengan idolanya tersebut.

"Sebenarnya saya telah berbicara dengan dia. Dia memberi saya beberapa saran hebat dan bilang bahwa saya akan berada di arah yang benar," kata Cielo tentang Popov, (antara)

Kejuaraan Dunia Akuatik 2013: Perenang 16 Tahun Katie Ledecky Pecahkan 2 Rekor Dunia

RENANG - Perenang Amerika Serikat Katie Ledecky memecahkan rekor dunia 800 meter gaya bebas putri di Barcelona Sabtu (3/8) malam waktu setempat.

Catatan waktu yang dibuat perenang yang baru berumur 16 tahun itu adalah 8 menit 13,86 detik untuk melampaui rekor sebelumnya 8:14,10 yang dibuat oleh Rebecca Adlington pada Olimpiade Beijing 2008.

Di Kejuaraan Renang Dunia itu, dia juga sebelumnya memecahkan rekor dunia 1500 meter gaya bebas.

Ledecky menyapu bersih emas di tiga nomor 400-800-1500 meter dan hanya dia serta Hannah Stockbauer pada 2003 yang bisa melakukan itu. Total, Ledecky membawa pulang empat medali emas dalam kejuaraan tersebut.

Sejak Olimpiade London 2012, Ledecky belum pernah kalah di event internasional. Dia mulai tampil di jajaran perenang papan atas dunia dengan meraih medali emas gaya bebas 800 meter di London. (berita satu.com)

Kejuaraan Dunia Akuatik 2013: Missy Franklin Ciptakan Keajaiban di Kolam Renang

RENANG: Remaja Amerika Serikat, Missy Franklin, menyamai rekor lima medali emas dalam satu kejuaraan dunia ketika untuk kedua kalinya memenangi nomor 200 meter gaya punggung di Barcelona, Sabtu (3/8/2013) waktu setempat.

Franklin menciptakan rekor dunia nomor 200 meter gaya punggung dengan catatan waktu dua menit 04,76 detik. Perenang Australia Belinda Hocking meraih perak dengan catatan waktu 2:06.66, sementara Hilary Caldwell dari Canada mendapatkan perunggu dengan mencatat waktu 2:06.80.

Remaja berusia 18 tahun ini, akan memecahkan rekor emas terbanyak di kejuaraan dunia jika tim favorit AS menjuarai lomba 4 x 100 gaya ganti estafet putri Minggu malam waktu setempat.

Pekan ini Franklin sudah meraih emas pada nomor 100 meter gaya punggung, 200 meter gaya bebas, 4 x 100 meter gaya bebas estafet putri, dan 4 x 200 meter gaya bebas estafet putri. Namun Jumat kemarin dia finis di urutan empat 100 meter gaya bebas putri.

"Wow @franklinmissy kamu tak pernah berhenti membuat saya kagum," kata pelatih Todd Schmitz dalam pesan Twitter-nya. "Lima emas dan kita belumlah selesai."

Kemenangan kelimanya ini berarti dia telah menyamai rekor yang diraih perenang Amerika Tracy Caulkins pada 1978 dan perenang Australia Libby Trickett pada 2007.

"Sulit memahaminya, namun saya sangat senang karena nomor 200 gaya punggung adalah favorit saya sehingga menyenangkan sekali bisa memenangkannya," kata Franklin dalam wawancara dengan televisi Spanyol TVE.

"Merupakan kehormatan, keistimewaan dan saya menikmati setiap waktu saya masuk air," katanya lagi.

Tahun lalu Franklin menciptakan rekor dunia 200 meter gaya punggung untuk sekaligus memenangi medali emas Olimpiade London, selain menjadi juara dunia di Shanghai dua tahun lalu. "Besok pagi saya off dan bersiap untuk pertandingan gaya ganti pada malam harinya. Akan ada banyak kegembiraan dan ini juga adalah nomor estafet favorit saya."(Ant)

FINA World Championships 2013: AS jawara gaya bebas estafet 4x200m putra

RENANG - Amerika Serikat untuk kelima kalinya memenangi gelar juara gaya bebas estafet 4x200 meter putra pada kekuaraan dunia renang di Barcelona, Jumat.

Tim Amerika Serikat membuat catatan waktu tujuh menit 01,72 detik, disusul Rusia yang meraih medali perak dengan waktu 7:03.92 dan China yang menyisihkan Prancis untuk mendapat medali perunggu dengan waktu 7:04.74.

Conor Dwyer memimpin tim Amerika tetapi perenang Rusia Danila Izotov menyodok sebelum Ryan Lochte kembali memimpin pada renang kedua dan Charlie Houchin serta Ricky Berens memenangkan kuartet perenang AS dengan sempura.

FINA World Championships 2013: Dalam Dua Jam, Lochte Raih Dua Emas

RENANG — Bintang renang AS, Ryan Lochte, ikut dalam tiga nomor dalam dua jam dan mampu meraih dua medali emas di Kejuaraan Dunia Renang di Barcelona, Jumat (2/8/2013).

Lochte meraih medali emas pertama di nomor 200 meter gaya punggung dengan catatan waktu 1 menit 53.79 detik. Ia diikuti atlet Polandia, Radoslaw Kawecki, yang terpaut 0.45 di belakang Lochte. Sementara juara Olimpiade, Tyler Clary, meraih perunggu dengan terpaut 0.85 detik.

Lochte kemudian menjadi perenang tercepat di semifinal 100 meter gaya kupu-kupu sebelum meraih medali emas kedua di nomor estafet 4 x 200 meter gaya bebas. Tim AS yang terdiri dari Lochte, Conor Dwyer, Charles Gipson Hochin, dan Ricky Berens meraih emas dengan catatan waktu 7:01.72.

Medali perak jatuh ke tangan tim Rusia dengan catatan waktu 7:03.92. Sementara medali perunggu direbut putra China dengan waktu 7:04.74.

Lochte mengaku trauma dengan pengalaman berlomba back-to-back ini. "Saya mampu selamat.  saya tidak berpikir untuk memenangi ketiga lomba ini. Saya hanya memenanginya satu demi satu," kata atlet yang telah berusia 28 tahun ini.

"Saya tidak tahu apakah ada atlet renang yang mampu meraih tiga kemenangan tersebut dalam satu malam. Tidak peduli dengan hasil perlombaan pertama dan kedua, saya harus tampil maksimal bersama tim saya di nomor estafet," lanjut Lochte.

Lochte mengaku melakukan hal tersebut demi negaranya.  "Sangat melelahkan dan menyakitkan memang. Saya tidak ingin mengulanginya." (kompas)

FINA World Championships 2013: Triady Fauzi Pertajam Catatan Waktu 50 Meter

RENANG — Perenang putra Triady Fauzi berhasil memperbaiki catatan waktu terbaiknya di nomor 50 meter gaya bebas Kejuaraan Dunia di Palau St Jordi, Barcelona, Jumat (2/8/2013).

Pada hari ke-6 ini, Triady Fauzi Sidiq berhasil memperbaiki waktu terbaiknya dari 23:17 detik menjadi 23:14 detik di nomor 50 m gaya bebas dan berada di posisi ke-44 dari 106 peserta. Namun, catatan waktu Triady ini berhasil memecahkan rekor nasional 22:97 atas nama Omar Suryaatmadja yang diciptakan tahun 2009 lalu.

Di babak kualifikasi, pemegang rekor dunia Cesar Cielo Filho dari Brasil (20.91 detik) berada di urutan kedua dengan catatan waktu 21.76. Sementara perenang Perancis, Florent Manaudou, mencatat waktu tercepat, yaitu 21.72 detik.

Menurut pelatih nasional Albert C Sutanto yang juga ikut ke Barcelona, pencapaian ini sudah maksimal. "Sayangnya, pada saat finished, Triady kurang bisa mempercepat gerakan finisnya,"  jelas Albert melalui pesan singkat kepada Kompas.com.

"Saya yakin Triady akan berenang di bawah 23 detik seandainya finisnya sempurna. Triady pun yakin tahun ini akan mampu memecahkan rekor nasional," ungkap Albert lagi.

Di nomor lain, Raina Saumi Grahana Ramdhani belum mampu memperbaiki catatan waktunya. Raina mencatat waktu 9:10,75 dan berada di posisi ke 33 dari 38 peserta. Hasil ini masih jauh dari target Raina, yaitu berenang di bawah 9 menit.

Setelah Kejuaraan Dunia ini, baik Triady dan Raina masih akan turun dua pertandingan lagi, Hongkong open 23-25 Agustus dan Islamic Splidarity Games di Palembang, 22 September-1 Oktober. Setelah itu, mereka akan terjun di sasaran utama tahun, ini yaitu ajang SEA Games di Naypyidaw, Mayanmar, pada Desember.

Pada hari ke-7, Sabtu (3/8/2013), Indonesia hanya menyisakan I Gede Siman Sudartawa yang akan turun di nomor 50 m gaya putra dan ini merupakan nomor terakhir bagi tim renang Indonesia di Kejuaraan Dunia Renang 2013 ini. (kompas)

FINA World Championships 2013: Siman Catat Waktu Terbaik di 50 Meter

RENANG - Di hari ketujuh Kejuaraan Dunia Renang, Sabtu (3/8), atlet Indonesia, I Gde Siman Sudartawa mencapai catatan waktu terbaik di nomor 50 meter gaya punggung.

Siman mencatat waktu 25.68 detik dan berada di posisi 19 dari 52 peserta dalam lomba yang berlangsung di Palau St Jordi, Barcelona ini. Seperti di 100 meter gaya punggung, Siman mencatat waktu terbaik iini saat bertanding pagi hari.

Meksi gagal lolos ke semifinal, waktu Siman ini hanya terpaut 0.06 detik dari rekor nasional 50 meter gaya punggung atas namanya sendiri yaitu 25.62 detik.

Pelatih nasional Albert C, Sutanto yang berada di Barcelona mengaku puas dnegan hasil ini. "Hasil ini cukup bagus bagi persiapan Siman menghadapi ajang Asian Games 2014. Di atas dia hanya ada satu perenang asal Asia,  Sun Xiao Lei yang mencatat waktu 25.01 detik," kata Albert melalui pesan singkat.

Di bawah Siman  terdapat nama atlet Korea Selatan, Shin Hewoong dengan catatan waktu 25.84 detik, serta atlet China, Cheng Feiyi dengan 25.83 detik. "Dengan melihat kekuatan ini, harapan Siman mendapat medali di Asian Games terbuka lebar," tulis Albert.

FINA World Championships : Two more gold for Lochte (USA), his overall tally reaches 23!

RENANG. Ryan Lochte (USA) earned two gold medals in the sixth session of the swimming competition at the 15th FINA World Championships, having now an accumulated number of 23 awards in FINA’s major event since 2005. His latest successes happened in the 200m backstroke, where he easily revalidated his 2011 title, this time in 1:53.79. In the last final of the evening, he was essential in the triumph of his team in the 4x200m free relay. The other two podium presences of Lochte in Barcelona were in the 200m IM (gold) and in the 4x100m free (silver). 

Other highlights of this sixth day included the surprising win of Yulia Efimova (RUS, 2:09.41), in the women’s 200m breaststroke. In the semis, Rikke Pedersen (DEN) had established a new World Record of 2:09.11, but she was slower in the decisive race, getting the silver in 2:20.08. In the men’s 200m breaststroke, Daniel Gyurta, from Hungary, became the first man with three wins in this event, after his golden performances also in 2009 and 2011. His time of 2:07.23 is a new Championships and European record, and is faster than the World Record he had set at the 2012 Olympics, when he won this distance.

 The current WR holder, Japan’s Akihiro Yamaguchi had a poor performance, finishing seventh.

In the initial final of the day, Cate Campbell (AUS) earned her first world title, by clinching the gold in the 100m free. She left behind her the 2012 Olympic champion Ranomi Kromowidjojo (NED, third) and the world record holder in this event since Rome 2009, Germany’s Britta Steffen (sixth).

In semi-final action, Lochte had still energy to qualify first for the 100m butterfly decisive race, while teammate Missy Franklin was also the fastest in the 200m backstroke. In this event, Federica Pellegrini (ITA) could not reach the final, concluding in ninth. In the men’s 50m free, Florent Manaudou (FRA), the Olympic champion, will swim the final in lane 4, after clocking 21.37 in the semis. Cesar Cielo (BRA), 2011 champion and WR holder, has the third time (21.60), while Australian sprinter James Magnussen was only ninth in 21.79.

Fina World Championships 2013: World Record for Pedersen (DEN) in the women's 200m breast

RENANG. The fifth session of finals was highlighted, in terms of performances, by the new World Record in the women’s 200m breaststroke by Rikke Moller Pedersen (DEN) in the first semi-final of the event. The Danish swimmer clocked an impressive 2:19.11, improving the previous world global mark (2:19.59) set by Rebecca Soni (USA) at the London Olympic Games. Pedersen is naturally the athlete to beat in the decisive race, but Yulia Efimova, from Russia, is not far, with a 2:19.85 effort in the semis. It was the third World Record of the Championships, all in women’s events - Ruta Meilutyte (LTU) in the 100m breaststroke and Katie Ledecky (USA) in the 1500m free are the two other WR performers so far.

In terms of medals, the five finals gave two titles to USA and also two gold medals to China. In all of these events, logics prevailed, with Ryan Lochte confirming his good shape in the men’s 200m IM and getting the third consecutive gold in this distance since 2009. Additionally, it was his first individual podium presence in Barcelona. In the women’s 4x200m free relay, the North Americans were also the favourites and touched home first for the fifth title in the last six editions of these Championships.

From the Chinese side, 2008 Olympic champion Zige Liu is back at the top, with a brilliant triumph in the women’s 200m butterfly, in front  of the audience’s hero Mireia Belmonte and well ahead of her compatriot Liuyang Jiao (sixth) the reigning Olympic winner. In the women’s 50m backstroke, it was another Chinese affair, with WR holder Jing Zhao defeating her teammate and revelation of the current season, Yuanhui Fu.

Last but not least, Australia took the last gold at stake, by winning the always prestigious men’s 100m free. James Magnussen, from Australia, imposed his class in 47.71, and could forget his silver medal in London, behind Nathan Adrian, this time the bronze medallist in the Catalan capital.

Kejuaraan Dunia Akuatik 2013: Liu Zige Raih Medali Emas Kejuaraan Renang Dunia

RENANG - Liu Zige dari China meraih medali emas pada nomor gaya kupu-kupu 200 meter putri pada kejuaraan renang dunia yang berlangsung di Barcelona, Kamis (02/07/2013).

Liu, penyandang rekor dunia dan urutan ketiga pada kejuaraan dunia dua tahun lalu di Shanghai, menorehkan waktu dua menit 04,59 detik.

Perenang dari Spanyol, Mireia Belmote Garcia, peraih medali perak Olimpiade London tahun lalu, di bawah dukungan penonton tuan rumah yang bersorak-sorai memberikan semangat di Palau Sant Jordi, meraih medali perak dengan waktu 2:04,78.

Seperti dilansir dari Antara, Katinka Hosszu dari Hungaria berada di urutan ketiga dan berhak atas medali perunggu, dengan waktu 2:05,59.

  

Zhao Jing Juara Gaya Punggung 50 Meter Putri

Barcelona: Zhao Jing dari China menjuarai nomor gaya punggung 50 meter putri pada kejuaraan dunia renang yang berlangsung di Barcelona, Kamis (1/8) waktu setempat.

Zhao, yang membuat rekor dunia 27,06 detik ketika mememangi gelar itu di Roma pada 2009, menorehkan waktu 27,29 detik.
Rekan senegaranya atlet remaja Fu Yuanhui meraih medali perak dengan catatan waktu 27,39 detik dan Aya Terakawa dari Jepang berhak atas medali perunggu dengan waktu 27,53 detik.

Kejuaraan Dunia Akuatik 2013: Van Der Burg Kuasai Renang Gaya Dada 50 Meter Putra

RENANG.: Cameron Van Der Burgh tampil sebagai juara pada nomor gaya dada 50 meter putra pada Kejuaraan Dunia Renang di Barcelona, Spanyol, Rabu (31/7).

Van Der Burgh, perenang Afrika Selatan, menyentuh tembok kolam dengan catatan 26,77 detik, sepersepuluh detik lagi mencapai rekor dunia yang dibuat di Roma pada 2009. Sedangkan perenang dari Australia Christian Sprenger mendapat medali perak dengan waktu 26,78, dan rekan senegara Van Der Burgh, Giulio Zorzi, berhak atas medali perunggu dengan waktu 27,04 detik.

Ini merupakan medali emas kedua bagi tim Afrika Selatan, setelah Chad le Clos memenangi nomor gaya kupu-kupu 200 meter putra pada Rabu pagi.

Sprenger melewati Van Der Burgh ketika memenangi nomor gaya dada 100 meter pada perlombaan Senin.

Kejuaraan Dunia Akuatik 2013: Triady Terpeleset, Gagal Pecahkan Rekor

BARCELONA, RENANG — Atlet renang putra Indonesia, Triady Fauzi Sidiq, gagal tampil maksimal di nomor 100 meter gaya bebas di kejuaraan dunia renang di Palau St Jordi, Barcelona, Rabu.

Triady atau Aji gagal mencapai catatan waktu terbaik dan hanya mampu berada di urutan 52 dari 87 peserta dengan catatan waktu 52.11 detik. Ia gagal memenuhi ambisinya untuk memecahkan rekornas 100 meter gaya bebas yang diciptakan Richard Sam Bera, 50.80 detik, pada 2001 lalu.

Hasil Triady ini lebih buruk dari dua atlet Asia Tenggara lainnya yang ikut di kejuaraan dunia kali ini. Atlet Singapura,Yeo Kai Quan, berada di urutan 40 dengan catatan waktu 50.92 detik, sementara atlet Filipina, Jessie Khing Lacuna, berada di urutan 51 dengan catatan waktu 52.10 detik. Sementara peringkat satu diduduki atlet Australia, James Magnussen, (47.71 detik).

Kegagalan Triady terjadi karena atlet asal Jawa Barat ini terpeleset saat melakukan pembalikan sehingga tidak mampu melakukan tendangan untuk mendorong di dinding. Saat pembalikan, ia masih berada di posisi tiga, tetapi kemudian tercecer di belakang.

Hasil buruk juga dicatat atlet putri, Monalisa Arieswaty Lorenza, di nomor 200 meter gaya kupu-kupu. Mona mencapai catatan waktu 2:18.24 dan berada di urutan 22 dari 26 peserta.

Mona berada di bawah atlet Singapura, Quah Ting Wen, dengan catatan waktu 2:14.10. Sementara waktu tercepat dicapai atlet tuan rumah Spanyol, Mireia Belmonte Garcia dengan catatan waktu 2:07.24. (KOMPAS.com)

Fina World Championships 2013: Katie Ledecky

RENANG, Katie Ledecky (USA) deserves to be today’s star at the 15th FINA World Championships. This 16-year old swimmer broke the world record in the 1500m free event (15:36.53) and got her second gold medal in these Championships. Two days ago she won the 400m free event. Ledecky beat Kate Ziegler’s record (USA) stopping the timer six seconds before, leaving everyone amazed with the time she did in her last 100m (1:00.47).

In the Olympic Games in London, Ledecky surprised the whole world by winning the gold medal in 800 m. That year she was the youngest American participant in the Olympics and the second youngest in history to win gold after Beth Botsford who was only 15 years old in Atlanta 96.

Ledecky is very catholic and her life is centered on its principles. According to her, her faith keeps her in contact with God and with the most important things in life. Before competitions, she always says the Hail Mary Prayer and she likes going to mass every week.  Her and her family are parishioners of the church of the Little Flower in Bethesda, northwest ofthe capital, where she lives and she feels a special devotion for Saint Patrick.

The Washington D.C. athlete started swimming when she was 6 years old. Katie was influenced by her older brother Michael, who was also a swimmer competing for Harvard University. She participated in a summer camp to make friends and get rid of her shyness. Her mother, Mary Gen, was swimming for the University of New Mexico.

Katie’s main hobbies are playing piano and reading. She also followed the ice hockey team Washington Capitals. With her 17 years, Katie Ledecky has a great future ahead of her. In Barcelona, she still has a chance to win a third gold medal in 800m free where she is the reigning Olympic champion.

Fina World Championships 2013: Ledecky sets new World Record in 1500m freestyle

RENANG, The more than ten thousand fans were treated to an evening of great emotions in Palau Sant Jordi. Some highlights were Ledecky´s new World Record, Lochte´s failure to make the podium, Missy Franklin´s first gold medal in Barcelona, and much more

This was definitely a great day for US swimming, as Missy Franklin, Katie Ledecky and Matt Grevers won three out of the five finals for their country.

The evening session began with the 200m freestyle race, where current Olympic champion Yannick Agnel won his first individual world championship gold thanks to an impressive 1:44.20, that left the silver medal for Conor Dwyer, from the USA, and the bronze for Russian swimmer Danila Izotov.

Expectations around Ryan Lochte were high, however, this was one of those races that he just wants to forget, as he said: "It wasn´t my night. But I have to put it behind because I still have many races to swim".

Later on, during the second final, it was Missy Franklin who took the gold in the 100m backstroke final, while Seebohm, from Australia, was second, and Japan´s Aya Terakawa was third, repeating the same podium from the last Olympic final.

An hour and ten minutes after winning that gold, Franklin came back to the pool to race the second heat of the semifinals of the 200m freestyle event. This time she finished in second place behind Federica Pellegrini.

It was Katie Ledecky, from the USA, who had the best performance of the evening and the greatest performance ever in the women´s 1500m freestyle by breaking the oldest World Record in long course swimming (from 2007, posted by Kate Ziegler). At the same time, Ledecky became the youngest winner of this event in the history of the FINA World Championships at the age of 16 years and 135 days, leaving behind her fellow countrywoman and now former world record holder Kate Ziegler (she set the WR in 2007 by swimming a 15:42.54). She had won this same race at the age of 17 years and 29 days when she did it for the first time, in 2005.

Ledecky´s challenge during the race was Denmark´s Lotte Friis, who suffered the sprint made by new female swimming sensation in the last one hundred, to finally finish in second place. Thanks to her silver, Friis became the first woman to win a medal in this discipline at three consecutive World Championships, after her silver from 2009 and her gold from 2011.

The second men´s final of the evening featured current Olympic champion Matt Grevers and David Plummer, who got together the first 1-2 for the United States in these World Championships and won medals number 399 and 400 for the USA in their long course world championships history.

On the last final of this session it was young Lithuanian star Ruta Meilutyte who won the gold medal in the 100m breaststroke event by swimming a 1:04.42, close to the World Record (1:04.35) that she herself set 24 hours ago, during the semifinals. Her gold was the 500th gold medal in the history of long course swimming World Championships, as well as the first gold medal ever for Lithuania at swimming World Championships.

Meilutyte also became the youngest woman to win both an Olympic and a world championship medal, and keeps showing that she is one of the brightest stars of female swimming along with Ledecky and Franklin.

15th FINA World Championships 2013: Swimming, Day 2: World Record for Meilutyte (LTU)

RENANG INDONESIA, 29 July 2013, Olympic champion Ruta Meilutyte claimed the first world record of the 15th FINA World Championships in a landmark swim for Lithuania in the women's 100m reaststroke. Meilutyte,16, clocked 1:04.35 in the semi-finals to better the 1:04.45 set by Jessica Hardy (USA) in Federal Way, Washington, on August 7, 2009. It was the first swimming world record in the 50m pool for her country since it gained its independence on the break-up of the former Soviet Union.

Four world titles were decided in the pool, with the victors coming from three continents, embracing Oceania, Europe and the Americas. Christian Sprenger provided Australia with the first gold of the evening, beating Olympic champion Cameron van der Burgh (RSA) into second place in the men's 100m breaststroke. Sprenger prevailed in 58.79 ahead of Van der Burgh (58.97) and Felipe Lima (BRA, 59.65) in an event won last time by Alexander Dale Oen (NOR), who sadly died in 2012.

Sweden's Sarah Sjostrom reclaimed the 100m butterfly title she had won in 2009, this time deposing defending champion and Olympic gold medallist Dana Vollmer (USA). Sjostrom, winner of the world title in 2009, won in 56.53, with Alicia Coutts (AUS), already a Barcelona silver medallist in the 4x100m freestyle relay, claiming her second successive world 100m butterfly silver (56.97). Vollmer took the bronze in 57.24.

Brazil's Cesar Cielo retained his 50m butterfly crown and claimed the fifth world title of his career. He won in 23.01 to add to the golds he scooped in the 50 and 100m freestyle in 2009 and 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly in 2011. Eugene Godsoe (USA) took the silver (23.05) and Fred Bousquet (FRA) bronze (23.11).

Katinka Hosszu put Hungary on the top step of the podium with an emphatic victory in the women's 200m individual medley. Hosszu, 400m individual medley champion in 2009, took charge from the start as Olympic gold medallist and defending champion Shiwen Ye (CHN) finished outside the medals in fourth place. Hosszu won in 2:07.92, with Olympic silver medallist Alicia Coutts (AUS) collecting her third silver medal in two days, clocking 2:09.39. Kejuaraan Dunia Akuatik 2013: Siman Sudartawa di Posisi 24

BARCELONA, RENANG INDONESIA — Perenang putra Indonesia, Gde Siman Sudartawa, gagal lolos ke semifinal nomor 100 meter gaya punggung di Kejuaraan Dunia Renang di Barcelona, Senin (29/7/2013).

Dalam babak kualifikasi yang berlangsung di Palau Saint Jordi, Senin pagi waktu setempat, Siman mencatat waktu 55.55 detik. Siman menduduki posisi 24 dari 53 peserta.

Ini sebenarnya merupakan catatan waktu terbaik Siman untuk perlombaan kualifikasi yang berlangsung pagi hari. Menurut pelatih Albert C Sutanto yang mendampingi para atlet di Spanyol, catatan waktu terbaik Siman pada lomba pagi hari adalah 56.25 detik yang dicatat di Universiade di Kazan, Rusia, pekan lalu.

Albert optimistis Siman yang dipersiapkan untuk SEA Games Myanmar, Desember mendatang, akan mampu memecahkan rekor sendiri bila bertanding pada pagi hari.

Di nomor 100 meter gaya punggung ini, dua atlet renang Jepang, Irie Ryosuke dan hagino Kosuke, berhasil lolos ke babak semifinal.

Di nomor tersebut, rekor dunia masih dipegang perenang AS, Aaron Peirsol, dengan 51.94 detik. Sementara rekor kejuaraan dunia juga atas nama Peirsol dengan torehan waktu 52.19 detik yang diciptakan di Roma pada 2009. (Kompas.com)
