World Junior Swimming Championships: New record of participation in Dubai (UAE)

Lausanne (SUI), RENANG (August 23, 2013) – The fourth edition of the FINA World Junior Swimming Championships will be held in Dubai (UAE) from August 26-31, 2013 and is already marked by a new record of participation: around 900 young athletes from over 95 National Federations will take part in the event. Swimmers aged 15-18 (for men) and 14-17 (for women) are competing in the iconic Hamdan Sports Complex, where took place in December 2010 the FINA World Swimming Championships (25m).

Some confirmed stars and many other talents capable of shining in the future will be present in the six-day competition, the most important swimming gathering in these age groups. This event will also close a busy summer, which included the 15th FINA World Championships in Barcelona (ESP) and the two first legs of the FINA Swimming World Cup (in 25m-pool). In these two major events, no less than 16 World Records have been established.

The FINA World Junior Swimming Championships were launched in 2006, with the first edition in Rio de Janeiro (BRA). Monterrey, in Mexico, staged the second edition in 2008, while the Peruvian capital Lima was the host of the 2011 rendezvous. The creation of this competition aimed at unifying the FINA calendar, as World Junior Championships already existed in the remaining FINA disciplines (Diving, Synchronised Swimming and Water Polo; the first edition for Open Water happened in 2012).

The competition programme in Dubai comprises 42 events, including the 4x100m free and medley mixed relays, and will unfold as follows:
August 26 – 4 finals
August 27 – 9 finals
August 28 – 5 finals
August 29 – 8 finals
August 30 – 5 finals
August 31 – 11 finals

Heats will take place at 09:00 and finals at 18:00 (local time).
