Dan cabang olahraga yang paling dibicarakan adalah renang dengan 504,965tweet, senam (336.267), bola basket (346.687), dan sepakbola (243.671).

AS Peraih Medali Terbanyak Olimpiade London 2012

Olimpiade 2012 telah berakhir, dan menempatkan Amerika di posisi teratas dalam perolehan medali, dengan jumlah total 104 medali, 46 diantaranya medali emas.

Tiongkok menduduki tempat kedua dengan 87 medali yang mencakup 38 emas.  Inggris di tempat ketiga dalam perolehan medali emas, memenangkan lima medali emas lebih banyak daripada Rusia. Rusia di tempat ke-3 dalam perolehan semua medali, Inggris pada urutan ke-4.

Upacara penutupan Olimpiade Musim Panas, London 2012 yang bertema “A Symphony of British Music” menghadirkan deretan bintang-bintang pop Inggris untuk menghibur hadirin. Artis ternama diantaranya Spice Girls, George Michael, Annie Lennox, dan Pet Shop Boys turut beraksi di atas panggung dalam perayaan yang digelar selama tiga jam dihadapan 80 ribu penonton tersebut.

Brazil, tuan rumah Olimpiade 2016, ikut memeriahkan acara dengan menampilkan karnival gaya Rio dengan menghadirkan para pemain drum dan penari yang mengenakan kostum karnival yang khusus dirancang untuk acara penutupan Olimpiade London 2012 tersebut.

Kejutan paling besar dalam pertandingan hari itu terjadi ketika Stephen Kiprotich dari Uganda memenangkan medali emas dalam marathon putra, medali emas pertama yang berhasil diraih Uganda dalam 40 tahun.

Bintang Muda Berprestasi Kembali Meriahkan Cabang Renang

London, RENANG INDONESIA.: Michael Phelps memang bakal hilang dari pentas kejuaraan renang dunia pasca-Olimpiase 2012. Namun, cabang renang tak bakal kehilangan bintang. Sebab bersamaan dengan rencana mundur Phelps, ada empat bintang muda yang lahir selama Olimpiade London ini.

Keempat bintang muda itu adalah Katie Ledecky, Missy Franklin, Ye Shiwen, dan Ruta Meilutye. Di usia yang sangat muda, mereka mampu beroleh medali emas dan memecahkan rekor dunia di Olimpiade pertamanya.

Katie Ledecky berhasil meraih emas untuk nomor 800 meter gaya bebas putri. Bahkan, atlet Amerika Serikat berusia 15 tahun itu mencatatkan waktu 8:14:63 detik. Catatan tersebut sekaligus memecahkan rekor dunia.

Rekan senegara Ledecky, Missy Franklin juga menunjukan talenta yang menakjubkan. Perenang berusia 17 tahun itu bahkan mampu meraih empat medali emas. Keempat medali itu diraih dari nomor 200 meter gaya punggung, nomor 100 meter gaya punggung, empat kali 200 meter gaya bebas estafet, dan empat kali 100 meter gaya bebas estafet putri. Kesemua emas itu bahkan diperolehnya dalam waktu kurang dari 24 jam.

Talenta muda berbakat juga dimiliki China. Ye Shiwem berhasil memberi kejutan di Olimpiade London. Remaja 16 tahun itu meraih medali emas di nomor 400 meter gaya ganti putri, sekaligus membuat rekor dunia baru. Ia menorehkan waktu 4:28:43 detik. Catatan itu mempertajam rekor lama yang dipegang Stephanie Rice.

Perenang muda berbakat lain hadir dari Lithuania. Ruta Meilutyte tampil mengejutkan dalam usia 15 tahun  dengan menyabet medali emas di nomor 100 meter gaya dada putri. Meilutyte bahkan sempat memecahkan rekor eropa saat bertanding di semi-final dengan catatan waktu 1:5:21 detik.

Kehadiran mereka akan memberi warna baru dalam perhelatan Olimpiade. Bukan tak mungkin, rekor milik Phelps bakal pecah di tangan mereka.(metrotv)

Mellouli triumphs in 10km Marathon

Tunisia's Oussama Mellouli won the men's 10km Marathon gold in the open water of the Serpentine today.

RENANG INDONESIA (10/8). Mellouli, who took bronze in the 1500m Freestyle in the pool last week, was followed home by the German Thomas Lurz who took silver.

The bronze medallist was Richard Weinberger of Canada.

When he won gold in the 1500m Freestyle in Beijing, Mellouli became the first African male to win an individual Olympic Swimming title and victory today saw him become the first swimmer to win an Olympic medal in the pool and open water at the same Games.

Although open water was only introduced four years ago, Mellouli, who beat his chest on finishing, has now set a precedent.

Mellouli said: 'I can't explain it, I can't really describe it.

'I don't think this has ever been done before. This is probably one of the toughest things to do.

'I'm a pretty solid guy and I never react but you saw that reaction, that says it all.'

RENANG INDONESIA (10/8), London: Perenang Tunisia Oussama Mellouli menjadi perenang pertama yang meraih medali emas Olimpiade di kolam renang dan open water setelah menjadi yang tercepat di nomor marathon 10 kilometer.

Mellouli yang memimpin lompa sejak awal finis pertama dengan catatan waktu 49 menit 55,1 detik. Tempat kedua diraih perenang Jerman Thomaz Lurz yang meraih medali perak. Sementara medali perunggu menjadi milik Richard Weinberg dari Kanada.

Kemenangan itu membuat Mellouli menjadi perenang pertama yang meraih medali emas Oimpiade di kolam renang dan open water.(metrotv)

Round-up: Phelps signs off in style

RENANG INDONESIA - Last night saw the exit of arguably the greatest Olympian in history as Michael Phelps bowed out of the sport having collected 18 gold medals and 22 overall.

The 27-year-old started his Olympic Swimming career as a 15-year-old in Sydney in 2000, where the youngster was fifth in the 200m Butterfly.

Six gold and two bronze medals followed in Athens four years later before his historic eight gold medals in Beijing in 2008.

His Games in London did not start off so well with fourth place in the 400m Individual Medley - his worst result since Sydney - and he was shocked into second by Chad le Clos in the 200m Butterfly.

However, the Baltimore swimmer won the 100m Butterfly and 200m Individual Medley - where he outgunned team-mate Ryan Lochte - as well as taking the titles in the 4 x 200m Freestyle and Medley Relay and silver in the 4 x 100m Freestyle.

Texts and phone calls came from the likes of USA president Barack Obama and last night he was presented with a FINA lifetime achievement award by president Julio Maglione inscribed with the words: 'To Michael Phelps, the greatest Olympic athlete of all time. From FINA. August 4 2012. London, Great Britain.'

At a packed press conference afterwards, Phelps revealed what he had said to Bob Bowman, who had coached him since the age of 11, when he completed his final warm-up.

Phelps told Bowman: 'I have looked up to Michael Jordan all my life. He became the best Basketball player there ever was. I've been able to become the best swimmer of all time, we got here together. Thank you.'

Phelps now intends to travel and remain heavily involved with his Swimming foundation.

Of how he was feeling after his final swim, Phelps said: 'It's hard to put into words right now. I did everything I wanted to and finished my career how I wanted to.

'I've always said that I don't care what anybody else says, if I can say that about my career that's all that matters.'

While Phelps's retirement commanded the spotlight, the rest of his USA team-mates enjoyed great success, heading the medal table with 30 medals: 16 golds, eight silver and six bronze, as well as setting five of the nine world records.

Phelps claimed six medals, of which four were gold, while his Baltimore team-mateAllison Schmitt also visited the podium six times, topping it on three occasions.

Missy Franklin, 17, won five medals - four of them gold - while Ryan Lochte will also take home five, including two titles.

Katie Ledecky made an astonishing senior debut, winning the 800m Freestyle with the second fastest swim in history at the age of just 15.

Fellow 15-year-old Ruta Meilutyte of Lithuania also topped the podium, shocking herself with her 100m Breaststroke victory.

Chinese swimmer Ye Shiwen won the 400m Individual Medley gold in world-record time, and returned to win the shorter medley.

Fellow Chinese Sun Yang also set a world record, lowering his own mark in the 1500m Freestyle as he continues to steer the event into uncharted territory. It was his second title, and fourth medal, of the week.

The French enjoyed success: Yannick Agnel anchoring the sprint relay to victory in the final metres over the USA before taking the 200m Freestyle title. Camille Muffatbecame only the second Frenchwoman to claim an Olympic Swimming title when she won the 400m Freestyle, then finishing second over four lengths.

Ranomi Kromowidjojo won the sprint Freestyle double for the Netherlands but the Germans left without having visited the rostrum.

There were surprises. James Magnussen - 'the Missile' - did not claim the 100m Freestyle as had been widely predicted for much of the year, defending championBritta Steffen did not make the final of the women's equivalent while Sarah Sjostrom, the Swedish teenager tipped for stardom, must wait for such success.

Most of all, though, the week was about Phelps, the like of whom we are unlikely to see again.

Day 8 Review (5/8): Phelps ends career in golden fashion

RENANG INDONESIA-Michael Phelps brought to an end an unparalleled career as he bowed out of the Olympic Games with 18 gold medals and 22 overall, bringing the curtain down on the London 2012 Swimming action at the Aquatics Centre.

The 27-year-old started his Olympic Games career at Sydney 2000, 12 years ago, where he finished fifth in the 200m Butterfly.

Six gold and two bronze medals at Athens 2004 were followed by his historic eight golds at Beijing 2008.

His London 2012 Games adventure did not start off so well with fourth place in the 400m Individual Medley - his worst result since Sydney 2000 - and he was shocked by Chad le Clos in the 200m Butterfly, the South African taking advantage of Phelps' poor glide into the wall.

However, the Baltimore swimmer won the 100m Butterfly and 200m Individual Medley - where he beat team-mate Ryan Lochte - as well as taking the titles in the 4 x 200m Freestyle and tonight's Medley Relay and silver in the 4 x 100m Freestyle.

'I said to Bob (coach Bob Bowman) in the warm-down pool that I looked up to Michael Jordan, what he did in his career and I have been able to become the best swimmer of all time, we got here together and I thanked him. It was fine.

'He said "That's not fair. You were the one in the pool". I said "what's not fair"?

'My tears are in my goggles and yours are streaming down your face. I wouldn't be here without him. I love him to death and I am thankful to have someone like him. It has been great.'

On retiring, he added: 'I don't want to swim after I turn 30 and that is in three years and I don't want to swim for another three years.

'I would be past 30 by the time of the next Olympics. I have achieved what I wanted to achieve; Bob and I have somehow been able to do every single thing.

'If you can say that about your career then it's time to move forward, time to move on to other things.

'I finished my career how I wanted to.'

Phelps' retirement overshadowed the rest of tonight's programme, in which the USA women set a new world record in their medley race of  3:52.05.

Sun Yang also set a new world record in the 1500m Freestyle, lowering his own mark by more than three seconds to 14:31.02.

Ranomi Kromowidjojo completed the sprint Freestyle double, winning the 50m in an Olympic record of 24.05.

Bersama rekan satu timnya di Aquatics Centre, London, Sabtu (4/8/2012) malam waktu setempat, Phelps menjadi yang tercepat. Mereka mencatatkan waktu 3 menit, 19,35 detik.

Medali perak dalam nomor ini diraih Jepang (3 menit 31,26 detik) dan perunggu oleh Australia (3 menit 31,68 detik).

Dengan hasil ini, Phelps yang pertama kali turun di Olimpiade Sydney 2000 mempertajam rekornya sebagai olimpian peraih medali emas terbanyak, yaitu 18 emas. Di London, Phelps mengumpulkan empat emas dan dua perak. Franklin dan Phelps Dominasi Cabang Renang

London: RENANG INDONESIA-Perenang Missy Franklin dan Michael Phelps mendominasi cabang renang di Olimpiade London, Inggris, Ahad (5/8). Keduanya, yang merupakan atlet Amerika Serikat, sukses menyumbang medali emas.

Di nomor estafet 4 X 100 meter gaya ganti putra, tim renang AS mendapat perlawanan serius dari Jepang. Sempat tertinggal di pembalikan awal, kuartet Matthew Grevers, Brendan Hansen, Michael Phelps dan Nathan Adrian mencatat waktu terbaik 3 menit 29,35 detik untuk merebut emas, diikuti Jepang dan Australia.
