AUSTIN, Texas, RENANG INDONESIA (19/1)– Missy Franklin
(Centennial, Colo.) won two gold medals on the second night of the Arena Grand
Prix – Austin at the Lee & Joe Jamail Texas
Swimming Center
in Austin , Texas .
Franklin ’s win in the 200m back capped her night
in a similar fashion it did for Nathan Adrian (Bremerton , Wash. )
in the 100m free. Franklin ’s
time of 2:07.31 not only was the best in the field but it also broke the pool
record held by Kirsty Coventry (2:07.59). Hilary Caldwell finished second in
2:12.13 and Miyuki Takemura came in third in 2:13.74.
Alexa Komarnycky won the 400m medley, the first individual event of the evening, in a time of 4:47.15. Margaret D’Innocenzo came in second in 4:59.12 and 15-year old Peyton Greenberg finished third in 5:08.01.
Tyler Clary (Riverside , Calif. ) took the men’s 400m medley in
4:20.36, which was nearly seven seconds faster than his morning swim (4:26.91).
Alec Page won the silver medal in 4:23.05 and Alex Wold won the bronze in
4:25.46.
The women’s 200m free was the first of two gold medals on the night forFranklin . She won this
event in 1:57.69. Quinn Carrozza earned her second medal of the meet with a
silver in 1:59.42. Barbara Jardin came in third in 1:59.98.
Ricky Berens (Charlotte , N.C. )
won the men’s 200m free holding of a field that was filled with fellow
Olympians Ryan Lochte (Daytona Beach , Fla. ) and Conor Dwyer (Winnetka , Ill. ).
Michael Klueh (Evansville , Ind. ) came in second with a 1:49.48 while
Lochte came in third with a 1:50.19.
Matt Grevers (Lake Forest , Ill. ) shaved eight seconds off of his prelim
time in the 200m back to win the finals in 1:58.84. Clary came in second
touching in 2:01.02. Arkady Vyatchanin came in third at 2:03.82.
Amanda Weir (Lawrenceville,Ga. )
and Nathan Adrian won the splash and dash, also known as the 50m free. Weir
touched in 25.53 followed by Victoria Poon (25.84) and Simone Manuel (25.85).
On the men’s side,Adrian was followed by
Anthony Ervin (Valencia , Calif. )
and Jimmy Feigen (San Antonio ,
Texas ) who both simultaneously
touched in 22.43. (usaswimming)
